Skip's Remote Edtech Jobs: April 27, 2024

Thank you for reading the EdSkipper, Skip’s newsletter about skipping from education to education-aligned careers. Every Saturday, I send out a list of curated remote jobs curated from 300+ companies each week. Premium subscribers receive access to all jobs in the Edskipper database and two additional emails a month with advice to help you apply more competitively.

Once again, I featured some really lovely roles this week … that closed within a few days.

This time around, instead of complaining (to my cats who listen to such things), I decided to dig into the data to see if this just feels like it’s happening all the time lately or if the numbers support my frustration!

I asked ChatGPT to analyze all the jobs I posted on Skip in the last three months. Specifically I asked it to show me the number of jobs I posted each week and to indicate how many of those jobs closed within a week. (I chose a week rather than a few days because I don’t check every job board daily so the info wouldn’t be all that accurate. I do check every job board weekly.)

And you can see a clear trend in this data — at the beginning of February (and before too if I’d extended my chart back in time), jobs were staying open for longer than a week. Then, about mid-February, a switch flipped and a decent percentage of jobs started to close much faster. We’re still in the middle of that trend (the final week on the chart isn’t over yet).

What happened? Well, educators have been applying to jobs more regularly right now. And Spring is typically a busy hiring season. And when more jobs are posted, more people apply to those jobs, which makes them close faster. Combine all that with the type of roles jobs I curate — roles looking for educators/edtech — and you get a fast turn around for many jobs.

Unsurprisingly, the jobs that are staying open longer are niche jobs — either in a particular location, requiring a lot of travel, or specialized and requiring unique experience.

~I hope you find some fantastic jobs to apply to this weekend,

This Week’s Poll

This poll was inspired by clicking on some really interesting jobs today … and not seeing a single salary. Previously, I’ve asked if people want me to post roles that don’t include salaries (the answer has always been resoundingly ‘no’) but today’s question is different: I’m curious if not posting a salary impacts whether you apply for a role.

FULL-TIME JOBS

I feature about 10-20% of the remote jobs I see each week for free on the job board! View all the remote jobs.
