Skip's Edtech Jobs: November 18, 2023

Thank you for reading the EdSkipper, Skip’s newsletter about skipping from education to education-aligned careers. Every Saturday, I send out a list of curated remote jobs. Premium subscribers receive two additional emails a month with industry insights and advice to help you apply more competitively to the jobs you’re passionate about.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope that you have a wonderful time eating yummy food, spending time with people you care about, and resting a bit from the hectic pace of life.

I’m looking forward to hosting Thanksgiving this year for family and a few friends. My husband and I love to cook so we always have a fairly elaborate spread. He’s also vegan so it’s traditional-with-a-twist: seitan roulade, vegan gravy and stuffing, brussel sprouts with shiitake ‘bacon,’ delicata squash biscuits, and some kind of squash dish. I’m always iffy on what squash dish to cook — people tend to skip it unless there are marshmallows on it!

Every year, I make a vegan charcuterie board. Vegan spreadable cheeses are a niche product that are starting to taste pretty good. Last year, I tried my hand at vegan carpaccio (aka marinated portabella mushrooms), and it was delicious. And, the rest of any charcuterie board is really vegan anyway — nuts, crackers, fruit, and olives/pickles. This year I might try to learn how to cook spiced nuts!

Since I’ll be busy cooking (and so are most recruiters), I’ll be taking next week off from job posting (here and on the job board) as well as from the Saturday newsletter.

Stay tuned after Thanksgiving for the next premium newsletter as well as the regular Saturday scoop.

~I hope you find some fantastic jobs to apply to this weekend and have a restful holiday,
Chelsea

This Week’s Poll

PREMIUM CONTENT: PREMIUM CONTENT: Edskipper Edtech Database

I spent this entire week staring at databases. And I still could do more of it!

This week’s focus was on tagging the 650 companies that I have in my edtech database so that I can identify the best ones to include in the database. I’m still finalizing my lists and I’ll probably spend the rest of the year testing just which companies I want to source from on a weekly basis.

As I’ve been tagging the company websites, I’ve been grabbing cool jobs for the job board or the database. Friday morning I checked 85 core job boards plus checked all the jobs and companies I posted last week. I made sure the jobs were still accepting applications and looked to see if there were any new jobs at those companies.

Here’s what the final tally of jobs looked like across all my channels:

  • ~15 free jobs on Skip’s job board (85% of them good fits for teachers!)

  • 167 total jobs on the Edskipper database across 75 distinct companies. (All these jobs are looking for candidates who have either education or edtech backgrounds (or both)!)

  • Almost 10% of these roles are part-time jobs!

  • The major job categories? Sales by a long shot, then program management jobs, followed by curriculum/assessment jobs. Customer success, data/research, marketing, L&D, and product jobs are well represented as well.

  • What kind of experience are these companies looking for? One third of them are looking for candidates with edtech/industry experience, but 9 jobs are looking for school-based admin and 41 are looking for teachers. There’s also a nice subset of jobs that is ‘background agnostic’ — if you have the relevant skills, they want you to consider applying.

I’m still testing this resource so it’s a great time to share feedback or your wishlist! You can always hit reply to this email. :-)

The database is only available to premium subscribers.
